Marske United are delighted to announce the signing of English football league midfielder Nathan Thomas subject to NPL & FA Approval.

With over 200 English Football League & Cup appearances & having played in the Scottish Premiership we are delighted to welcome the that 28-year-old midfielder to the club.

Nathan will be a familiar face to Seasiders supporters who have attended our friendly fixtures having already played three times for us this season on trial.

He featured prominently in our 2-2 draw against West Auckland, drawing fouls across the pitch as he overloaded the Auckland midfield, and also ran the show against Darlington and Scarborough, scoring in both games to win Man of The Match in each as a trialist.

Nathan is a local lad, born in Ingleby Barwick and started his career at Newcastle United's Academy before plying his trade at Sunderland and Darlington.

He has played in Championship, League One and League Two games for an assortment of clubs including Plymouth, Mansfield, Shrewsbury, Notts County and Sheffield United.

Nathan also formed part of the latter’s wider Premier League squad when they got promoted.

His most prolific scoring spell came at Hartlepool where he scored 14 league goals in 55 games as an attacking midfielder between 2015 and 2017.

Two stints in the Scottish Premiership saw Nathan turn out for Motherwell in 2015 and Hamilton Acidemical in 2021 which was followed by a stint at York City that lasted until the end of last season.

Interest in Nathan was huge this summer with multiple teams from higher divisions all vying for the signature of the highly coveted midfielder which the Seasiders have secured.

Speaking about his new signing Marske United Manager Graeme Lee said: "We’ve been in conversations for a few weeks now, trying to persuade him, trying to get him down.

“He’s played a few games for us. He’s a hell of a talent, and a hell of coup for us as a club to bring someone of his ability with what he has done in the game so far.

“And a great age, he still has so much to offer, so we are very fortunate and looking forward to working with him.”

“I’m delighted to eventually get it across the line,” Nathan added.

“It’s been quite a few weeks, but really looking forward to getting started. The season is right around the corner now so looking forward to getting going.

“The main instigator was the manager and what the club want to try and do in the next couple of seasons, and push at the right end of the league.

“There will be ups and downS this season. I’m sure of it. There always is, but the support of the village is the biggest thing, and at the end of the day that is why we are all here.”

Supporters can watch Nathan and the team in action at Mount Pleasant in two weeks time with match tickets now on sale for our first home league game against Ilkeston Town on Saturday August 12th and season tickets are also still available here
