Burto previews the recent results and final match of the season

Baker Lillivick16 Apr - 19:11

Paul Burton has shared his thoughts on recent results that secured our safety in the first division and Saturday's final match of the season.

Reflecting on the season that has been and recent results before the season culminates at Easington Colliery on Saturday, Paul says: "What has been a very difficult season draws to a close this weekend with another tough away trip to Easington Colliery with the club going into this game knowing Marske United’s Northern League First Division status was confirmed after two late goals secured the win needed against Northallerton Town last time out.

It was a game played in strong winds on a lively pitch which didn’t allow for much football, Northallerton took the lead in the first minute and it took us some time to recover and settle with no real chances created and the only talking point being the sending off of a Northallerton player for a challenge late in the first half.

In the second half with a man advantage, we started to keep possession better but still hadn’t really tested their keeper, the addition of substitutes, Jackson, McBride and Rowe changed the game and late goals from Craggs and McBride meant we had the three points needed.

It was important we secured the points required to make sure we couldn’t be caught rather than relying on other teams around us dropping points and doing us a favour, the players to a man have been immense coming through a hectic schedule of games over a short period of time, every single one of them deserves full credit.

I would also like to thank the managerial team who work alongside me, Cappy, Mark, Barry, Ian, Mally, Rizo and Dave, their support and commitment for the period we have been at the club has been outstanding, knowing them all as I do, I wouldn’t have expected anything less.

I think it’s also right that we thank Nicky Ward and his staff, unfortunately in football things don’t always work out and it’s difficult when people leave clubs. I think their contribution to achieving the club’s goal of staying in the first division cannot be underestimated.

And finally, to all the fans, volunteers and committee members, you are the heart of Marske United FC, this is your club and your team, thank you."

It'd be fantastic to see a big following at Easington on Saturday afternoon to get behind Burto and the side as we aim to finish the season on a high note!

We are also running a coach to the game courtesy of Marske United Supporters Club! You can see their post on their Facebook page for details on booking a place https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=61588635006042
