
The game began at a high tempo, and in the 6th minute Ganty showed excellent skill and determination on the ball. He worked brilliantly to get free from his Whickham marker, creating space for himself in a tight area. Spotting Draper making a run, he attempted to slide a pass through to him, but the ball was unfortunately cut out by a well-timed interception from the defender. In the same minute, Dom was shown a yellow card after a late challenge, meaning Marske had an early booking to contend with.
In the 10th minute, Jacko tried his luck from distance. He struck the ball well, but it took a deflection off a defender which altered its path and carried it safely into the goalkeeper’s hands.
By the 15th minute, Marske were building momentum. Danny Boyle delivered a fantastic cross into the penalty area, whipping the ball in with pace and accuracy. It found Dom’s head in a promising position, but his effort drifted into the side netting, leaving everyone thinking it could have been the opener.
Whickham threatened in the 33rd minute when they fired a shot from range that whistled just past the post. It was a close call and a reminder that they were still very much in the contest.
In the 38th minute, Whickham took the lead. A dangerous ball was played low across the six-yard box, and with the defence unable to clear their lines, it was tapped in from close range for a simple finish, making it 1–0 to the visitors.
Marske went into the half-time break trailing 1–0.
Early in the second half, in the 51st minute, Boyley produced a strong effort on goal. He struck it cleanly, but the Whickham goalkeeper pulled off an excellent save to deny him and preserve their advantage.
Unfortunately, in the 62nd minute, Jey went down injured and was unable to continue. He was forced to come off, and everyone wished him a speedy recovery.
Marske were awarded a penalty in the 68th minute after Ganty attempted to whip a ball into the box and it struck the arm of a Whickham defender. The referee pointed to the spot immediately. Ganty stepped up confidently and calmly slotted the penalty home to level the score at 1–1.
The pressure continued to build, and in the 81st minute Dom Joynes gave Marske the lead. He positioned himself well at the back post and, after waiting for the delivery, nodded the ball into the net with a composed header to make it 2–1.
However, the drama was not over. In the 89th minute, Whickham found an equaliser, scoring late on to bring the game back to 2–2.
Deep into stoppage time, in the 90+4th minute, Whickham scored again to complete the comeback.
At full-time, it finished Marske 2–3 Whickham.
