Paul Burton urged his side to ‘shake off’ Saturday’s defeat to Jarrow ahead of a return to league action at the John Keegan Stadium this weekend.

The Seasiders welcome somewhat near-neighbours Northallerton Town with an eye on climbing the table.

Marske sit 19th in Northern League Division One, though have played only seven games - five less than their opponents.

A win would see the Seasiders leapfrog Northallerton Town, potentially climbing to 13th with help from results elsewhere.

Keen to respond to Saturday’s FA Vase exit, Paul Burton admitted the league position was far from concerning.

He urged his side to give a good account of themselves, whilst hinting at opportunities for those who have been on the sidelines in the last few weeks.

“We are behind on league games, but only because of the cup runs we’ve had.” Paul Burton told Ashley Stone.

“Obviously, we lost two fixtures with Boro Rangers dropping out, and we should have played Yarm and Eaglescliffe, but they share a pitch with Billingham Town, who were also at home that night.

“I think we’ve got four or five games in hand on some teams, so I’m not concerned about our league position, even though I think we’re fourth, or maybe fifth bottom.

“We had a chat after Saturday’s defeat to Jarrow. I know that wasn’t us. I think we’ve seen that this season.

“Supporters that have come and watched us against Whickham, Easington, Blyth, they’ll know that wasn’t us.

“Every game barring Thornaby and on Saturday, we’ve given a decent account of ourselves. We know we can improve, but we’ve been a decent threat, and made it difficult for teams.

“These things do happen. It’s not the end of the world. At the end of the day, what’s important is that we shake it off and start again on Saturday.

“It might be that we take a look at some of the lads that have been sat on the bench for the last few games and give them that opportunity to show what they can do.

“Either way, I’m confident that we can get a reaction on Saturday.

“We’ve trained Monday and Wednesday, we’ve hurt for a few days, and hopefully we can shake it off and give a good account of ourselves against Northallerton.”
