The boss admitted the Division Two outfit have the ability to cause his side problems, stressing the importance of approaching the game in the ‘correct manner.’

Marske United host the Star at the John Keegan Stadium to kick off this season’s Isuzu FA Vase campaign.

It’s a first competitive outing for ten days for the Seasiders, who last beat Crook Town thanks to a lone strike from new frontman Charlie Watt.

The winner will earn a trip to Division Two table-toppers Jarrow in the Second Qualifying Round, but Paul Burton admitted that wasn’t the driving factor in setting his team up to progress.

“For me at the moment, it’s about building some momentum with a new squad of players.” He said.

“It doesn’t really matter if it’s a league game or the (Isuzu) FA Vase, we want to approach every game in exactly the same way with the intention of winning.

“It’s about building on the start we have made, and every game gives us that opportunity.

“I think the break has helped, we had a frantic start to the league programme with four games in 12 days.

“The ten days without a game has allowed a few players to recover from minor knocks and strains. It’s given us three training sessions to work with the players.”

Lining up against his Seasiders this weekend, Seaham Red Star bring a considerable threat to the John Keegan Stadium, despite being a division apart.

The County Durham outfit have the quality to hurt Marske United, but Paul Burton has more of a mind for how his team perform.

“I think Seaham will offer a real challenge on Saturday.” He said.

“I went to watch them last weekend. They’re well organised and work hard, plus have a few players who stood out and could cause us problems if we don’t approach the game in the correct manner.

“As with all games, it’s what we do that will determine if we progress in the competition.”
