Paul Burton praised the Seasiders’ fight and desire following a tough, physical battle with Easington Colliery at the John Keegan Stadium on Tuesday night.

The boss argued the tight contest is the sort of game Marske would have lost last season, pleased instead to come away with a hard-fought point.

Much like Saturday’s opening day test against Whickham, the spoils were shared thanks to a first half goal apiece on the Teesside coast.

This time, it was the Seasiders who opened the scoring opportunistically through Kenzie Harker. Daniel Maw levelled for the visitors on the stroke of halftime.

It’s a second successive draw against a strong side to start the campaign for Marske United, and Paul Burton admitted he was delighted with the progress.


“We've competed with a good side.” He said. “A physical side. We've not taken a backwards step all game, so I’m delighted really.


“It was a similar game to Saturday, although to be fair, they probably came to play more football than Whickham did. I think the conditions on Saturday suited Whickham more than they did us.


“But, we've kept Easington restricted today. I don’t think our ‘keeper had that many saves to make, if I'm honest with you.

“First half, if we'd have come in three-one up, I think we'd probably deserve that. Maybe not on the balance of play, but certainly on chances we've had.

“We scored a goal, and had two great chances go across the face of goal, just waiting for somebody to tap it in.


“I’m really pleased. I think we were a threat the whole game against a decent side.

“The most important thing is, if we’re not going to win the game, we don't lose it, and we pick another point.

“It's two games unbeaten now, so we're trying to build a bit of momentum.



“I think we can still improve. I think there's areas we can improve still and get better, but that'll come, that'll come with games.”
