Marske competed from minute one-through-ninety, despite fielding a depleted side. Tom Marron and Charlie Watt remained sidelined, whilst James Sayer and Jey Draper were cup-tied.

The boss admitted he was delighted with the fight shown by his squad. He said: “That was more like what we expect. I’m delighted with our lads. They put a shift in today.

“When you play these sides, you need your first eleven really. Tom Marron, our captain, not available. Obviously James Rowe’s played today in the middle of the park, but he’s only just come back after a few weeks.

“Charlie (Watt) up top is a massive threat for us. As is Jey Draper. He and James Sayer were cup-tied today, so we were limited with what we could do up front.

“We asked Tyler to do a job for us, and he worked tirelessly for seventy minutes. He put a great shift in, as the whole team did.”

From the minute the draw was made, Paul Burton knew it would be a tall ask to topple the Northern Premier League side.

He argued Marske would have to be on top form to come away with a result, labelling the Reds the toughest side his team could’ve drawn.

“We knew it was going to be a tough game.” He said. “We knew we were going to have to be right on top of our game, and them below par, for us to get anything.

“At halftime, we needed to stay in it. At one-nil, we might have gotten an opportunity where we could hold on to something. The second goal has killed the game.

“They’re a very good side, Workington. When you look back now, it’s probably the toughest draw we could’ve got. Maybe it would’ve been different at home. Not having to travel over two and a half hours.

“They were very good today, and I wish them all the best in the next round.”
