Marske United bounced back from a disappointing midweek defeat with victory over Whitley Bay in a tight contest at the John Keegan Stadium.

Kenzie Harker notched the lone goal, stepping up to net from the spot having been brought down himself.

The result moves the Seasiders back up to sixteenth - albeit with at least a game in hand on every team in the division.

Paul Burton opted for a lone change from
Tuesday’s defeat in Bishop Auckland. Clayton McDonald was restored to the side, as Tyler Goodman returned to the bench.

Tom Eglinton was given a new role as a makeshift centre forward, both heading wide of the mark and drawing a sprawling stop from Adam Cameron inside the opening half hour.

His usual defensive partner and Marske captain Tom Marron hooked an effort wide, whilst Joe Bennett’s strike was too easy for Cameron in the visitors’ goal.

Whitley Bay had chances of their own in an even first period. Alfie Livermore’s strike was deflected behind, before Lennox Magalhaes fired wide of Mike Algie’s goal.

The restart of play brought with it the greatest opportunity for the Seasiders, as Kenzie Harker was brought down on the path to goal.

He stepped up to take the spot kick himself, sending Adam Cameron the wrong way to give Marske the lead.

Pressure from the visitors escalated as the contest neared its close. Mike Algie commanded the box well, whilst Joe Dixon was sin-binned for dissent towards a match official.

Tyler Goodman came close to doubling the lead when he entered play late on. He worked the ball well through a crowd of blue shirts, though couldn’t find the target with Adam Cameron beaten.
