Marske United were stunned by an early double as a quick and energetic Thornaby romped to a four-goal win at Teesdale Park.

Kurtis Howes opened the scoring within three minutes following a defensive lapse. He laid on for Spencer Walker to double the lead moments later.

Howes netted his brace when play resumed, whilst Luke Drummond rose to head home the Blue Lamps’ fourth in the closing stages.

A mild - albeit wet - evening filled with such optimism before a ball was kicked, Marske were beaten inside five minutes thanks to two defensive mistakes.

Kurtis Howes stole possession to roll home the opener, soon laying on for Spencer Walker to beat Mike Algie at close range.

The Seasiders desperately searched for a response. Kenzie Harker found Tom Eglinton, whose header struck the woodwork, whilst Joe Bennett volleyed high and wide from the edge of the area.

Dom Joynes drove through the heart of midfield and opted to go alone. His effort clipped the frame of the goal, but ultimately ended up on the terraces.

James Sayer had Marske’s lone shot on target on the hour mark. He nodded Joe Thompson’s long throw into the grasp of a grateful Sam Taylor.

Thornaby continued to chip away themselves. Sam Lawrence and Joe Kennedy blazed over, whilst Tom Eglinton denied Kurtis Howes after a scramble.

The forward notched his second, and Thornaby’s third, moments later.

Joe Kennedy continued the Blue Lamp’s pressure, curling an effort wide from the edge of the area. Luke Drummond rose to add a fourth from an in-swinging free kick.
