McKittrick Scores Again as Marske Edge Out Northallerton Town

Ashley Stone

Our report as the Seasiders beat Northallerton Town at a gusty John Keegan Stadium.

Marske United bounced back from a series of unfortunate defeats with a hard-fought victory over Northallerton Town at the John Keegan Stadium.

Finn McKittrick once again made the scoresheet. He fired home from debutant Oscar Mahoney’s long ball to seal the three points for the Seasiders.

Former Marske midfielder Dale Hopson was shown a red card for the visitors in the closing stages of play.

It was Northallerton who made the brighter start amidst swirling winds at the John Keegan Stadium. Dale Hopson found Mackenzie Crooks at the back post, but Mike Algie was quick to smother the chance.

Marske were in control by the tenth minute. Jey Draper forced a strong stop from Ben Fairless at his near post, whilst Joe Bennett’s headed effort was blocked.

Finn McKittrick fought to regain possession high up the pitch. His curled drive too was denied by Fairless, who was again alert to thwart Charlie Watt on the edge of the box.

Marske felt aggrieved not to take a lead into the break when Watt was brought down in the penalty area. His appeals - and those from the terraces - were waved away.

The deadlock would eventually be broken shortly after the hour mark. Oscar Mahoney sprayed a long pass towards Finn McKittrick, who lifted the ball clear of two defenders and picked out the far corner.

Charlie Watt came agonisingly close to doubling that tally moments later. He beat Ben Fairless to another long ball, though Northallerton scrambled to clear the danger.

Town looked to hit back through Jack Kilpatrick after a number of second half changes. His effort was well held by Mike Algie, who was again called upon to tip Ben Creamer’s effort wide of the upright.

Northallerton would finish the contest with ten men, as Dale Hopson was shown the red card following what seemed an innocuous collision with Jey Draper.
