Marske United came from behind to rescue a point at Newcastle Benfield’s MKM Stadium in Walkergate - a third game unbeaten for Paul Burton’s side.

The hosts hit the front through second half substitute Calvin McCarthy after a tight opening seventy minutes.

Charlie Watt snatched the leveller in the third minute of stoppage time - sealing a share of the spoils for a Marske side far from their best on Tyneside.

Played on a mild afternoon in Newcastle, the Seasiders made the best of a frantic start to the game.

Jey Draper and Charlie Watt both tested the grasp of James Hughes, whilst Matthew Hayton fired high and wide of Mike Algie’s goal at the other end.

The pitch was certainly no friend to Marske. It ended the game for Richie Allen inside ten minutes, who was forced to leave the field for returning captain Tom Marron. He too limped off in the second half.

With the Seasiders unsettled at the back, Newcastle Benfield found some joy ahead of the break. Jack Roys prodded the lively Promise Nzumbu’s cross wide, whilst Hayton was this time denied by Mike Algie.

Jey Draper nodded Dom Joynes’ cross high of James Hughes’ crossbar, before Charlie Watt again took aim, bending his effort wide of the far post having worked hard to regain possession.

The hosts made the brighter start when play resumed after the interval. James Wilson bent his strike off target, before Calvin McCarthy rose to lift a long ball over Mike Algie to break the deadlock.

Marske’s frustrations built as the referee dished out a couple of bookings - Joe Bennet, James Rowe and Dom Joynes were all penalised for tactical fouls.

It took a dead ball in the third minute of stoppage time for the Seasiders to restore parity to the affair.

Charlie Watt stepped up to tuck a close-range free kick into the far bottom corner, sealing a share of the spoils on an otherwise poor afternoon on Tyneside.
