Mossley vs Marske United – Match Preview
Marske make the trip to Lancashire to face Mossley this coming Saturday on the back of a 1-0 victory against Middlesbrough Under 23s in the North Riding Cup on Tuesday, thanks to a Curtis Round goal.
Marske currently sit in the final play off position in 5th place following their narrow win against Prescot Cables last Saturday. Marske’s league record is currently played 19, won 12, drew 3, lost 4 though their away record is 4 wins, 1 draw and 4 defeats from 9 games. Mossley sit in mid-table in 10th place though they have a fine home record with 9 wins and 3 draws from 15 games. The Lilywhites are the lowest scorers in the top half of the league with 31 goals scored and have conceded the 5th most goals in the whole division.
However, Mossley are in good form currently and have 10 points from their last 6 games which includes 7 points from their last 3 games with a draw at Widnes and wins at home to Marine and Clitheroe, both of whom currently sit in the top 7 in the division. Marske are joint top of the form league with 5 wins from the last 6 games, the only defeat being at Workington two weeks ago. Last week saw Marske beat Prescot Cables 2-1 thanks to goals from Liam O’Sullivan and a Craig Gott penalty with just 4 minutes left.
Last month, Mossley travelled to Mount Pleasant and Marske ran out 3-0 winners thanks to an Andrew Stephenson hat-trick. However, the game was much closer than the final score suggests as it was 0-0 at half time and only a tactical change at half time from the Marske management team ensured a Marske win.
Marske have added a new signing to the squad tonight (subject to league approval) in the form of forward Arran Wearmouth, who joins from Whitby Town. Arran, who started his career at Middlesbrough, has an excellent pedigree having appeared for Blyth Spartans, Darlington, Bishop Auckland and West Auckland. Lewis Maloney will return to the squad having completed his 3 match ban following his sending off vs Brighouse Town.
Speaking tonight, Marske manager Carl Jarrett stated “I am delighted to add Arran to the squad. He’s a player I’ve admired for a number of years and he’ll add real quality to the squad. Saturday’s match will be another tough game, as they always are in this league. Mossley have an excellent home record but we are in great form and go there with confidence”.
Player to Watch – Jesurun Uchegbulam. Teenager Jes was signed from Stockport Town in 2018 and plays primarily as a winger. Loves to have the ball at his feet and impressed when Mossley visited Mount Pleasant earlier in the season.
