Runcorn Linnets Match Preview
On Saturday, Marske make one of their longest trips of the season as they visit Cheshire to renew rivalries with Runcorn Linnets.
Linnets currently sit in 9th place in the table and still harbour outside hopes of reaching the play-offs. They have played 26 games in total, winning 10, drawing 8 and losing 8. They have scored 40 goals and conceded 38. They have an excellent home record with 7 wins and 4 draws from 13 games.
After their excellent home win against Pontefract Collieries on Tuesday, Marske consolidated the final play off place and remain in 5th with 48 points from 25 games. Their away record stands at 4 wins and 3 draws from 12 games, so there is definite room for improvement.
In terms of recent form, Runcorn sit in 12th place in the form table with 7 points from their last 6 games with 2 wins, 1 draw and 3 defeats. The wins, both 2-1, came at home to Ossett United and Pickering Town. Last time out, they succumbed to a 1-0 home defeat against Clitheroe who netted the winner in the 78th minute. Marske sit in 8th place with 9 points from their last 6 games, though they are unbeaten in their last 5 with 2 wins and 3 draws, scoring 9 goals in their last 3 games after suffering a blank in the 3 games prior to that.
Earlier this season – Marske ran out 6-1 winners at Mount Pleasant thanks to a brace from Curtis Round, a hat-trick from Louis Johnson and a late goal from the now departed Brad Plant. Zac Aley grabbed a later consolation for Runcorn.
Team News – Marske are without striker Louis Johnson due to an ankle ligament injury. Mathew Garbutt is also unavailable. In addition, there are injury doubts surrounding both Kev Burgess and Lewis Maloney, who both had to be substituted on Tuesday. Marske hope to have at least one new face in the squad in time for the game.
Man to Watch – Louis Corrigan. Though he didn’t play on Tuesday, full back Corrigan impressed in the game at Mount Pleasant and has 9 goals in all competitions this season, including the 90th minute winner versus Trafford. He loves to get forward and will no doubt, if selected, give the Marske defence a tough time when he advances forward.
Speaking to the official Marske United website, manager Carl Jarrett stated “hopefully we can take our last few solid performances into Saturday as I know that this will be a tough game”.
