Clitheroe Match Preview
After the disappointment of the 1-0 reverse at Mossley on Saturday, Marske get an immediate chance to get back into the play-off places when Clitheroe visit Mount Pleasant. The game pits 6th vs 7th in the table with Clitheroe 3 points behind the Seasiders, though Marske have 4 games in hand. Clitheroe’s overall league record this season is played 24, won 10, drawn 6 and lost 8 and they have scored 39 goals (the same as Marske) and have conceded 32. Away from home, they have won 4, drawn 2 and lost 4. Marske’s overall record is played 20, won 12, drawn 3, lost 5, though their home record is one of the best in the division with 8 wins and 2 draws from 10 played.
In terms of current form, Marske have won 4 and lost 2 of their last 6 in the league with wins against Prescot Cables, Pontefract Collieries, Brighouse and City of Liverpool and defeats against Workington and Mossley. Clitheroe have failed to win in their last 5. They lost 2-1 against Pontefract Collieries on Saturday and before that had two draws against Dunston and Pickering plus two 2-1 defeats at the hands of Mossley and Tadcaster. Prior to that, they had won two in a row against Colne and Widnes over the Christmas period, both by a 1-0 scoreline.
Marske manager Carl Jarrett will have to decide whether to make changes to either personnel or formation following the Mossley defeat, with Andrew Stephenson and Glen Butterworth pressing for places in the starting eleven. After dropping out of the play off places on Saturday, manager Jarrett commented “this is a massive game for the team especially after our disappointment on Saturday. It is imperative that we bounce back”.
Man to Watch: Conor Gaul. Gaul is the joint second top goalscorer in the division with 15 goals so far this season, which includes 7 penalties. In November and December, he scored in 5 consecutive games and can play either out wide or up front.
