Kendal Town Match Preview
This Tuesday 3rd March, Kendal Town make the trip to the East coast to visit Mount Pleasant, in the 3rd attempt to get this game played after the horrific weather endured for much of the season.
The Mintcakes currently sit in 19th place in the league table with 20 points from 26 games and their recent good form has deserted them with back to back defeats at home to Workington (0-6) and City of Liverpool (0-1). Their January form was much better with 2 wins, 1 draw and 1 defeat from their 4 games played, which included an impressive 4 points from their back-to-back games with Tadcaster Albion.
Their overall record reads played 26, won 5, drawn 5 and lost 16, scoring 27 goals and conceding 65, the second worst defensive record in the division, though they have actually gained more points on the road (11) than they have at home (9)
Kendal have made a number of recent signings including Michael Samson and Thomas Stead. They have also recently signed Emil Jaaskelainen, son of the legendary ex-Bolton goalkeeper Jussi, on a permanent deal from Blackpool. Emil has been on loan with the Mintcakes since the start of the season and has scored a number of crucial goals this season, especially the 90th minute winner at Ossett United in November.
Marske go into the game following a blank 3 weeks thanks to 5 consecutive postponements. Prior to their break, goals have been hard to come by with February seeing a 1-0 defeat at Mossley and two goalless draws at home to Clitheroe and away to Colne, in a game ruined by the wind. Marske will include recent signing, Connor Smith in their squad.
Man to watch – Emil Jaaskelainen. The 18 year old is a striker who signed a professional deal with Blackpool in May last year and has previously spent time at youth training camps in his native Finland. Emil comes from a famous footballing family; as well as dad Jussi, his brother Will is a goalkeeper who currently plays for Crewe Alexandra.
Speaking the official Marske United website, assistant manager Nick Ward stated “the lads have been training superbly in recent weeks especially given the only action they’ve seen was the 1-0 friendly win against Thornaby. Everyone is desperate to get playing again and to try and gain some much-needed points in our games in hand”.
