Marske United’s Northern League bout with Horden Community Welfare was abandoned at the halftime break due to poor visibility at Horden Welfare Park.
Thick fog had descended upon parts of County Durham during the afternoon, causing difficulty for the officials during the first period.
Clayton McDonald was shown a red card for a poor challenge, but neither side could make headway in poor conditions.
An evening marred by thick fog in County Durham, most spectators had to use their imagination to make sense of the first half exchanges.
Horden certainly started the brighter. Oliver Dixon twice fired off target, whilst Josh Daley placed his free kick into the car park behind Mike Algie’s goal.
The Marske shot-stopper was called into action to deny Oliver Dixon, whilst Conner Gales’ pullback cross sailed past a sea of red shirts in the centre.
Jey Draper had the Seasiders only real chance of the half. He dragged an effort wide of goal after a mishap in the Horden backline.
By the halftime whistle, the fog had claimed all four corners of the pitch. Clayton McDonald’s red-card-worthy challenge was only seen by half of the crowd, and Joe Thompson claimed he ‘couldn’t see a thing.’
The officials delayed the restart by quarter of an hour, and at such time deemed conditions not to have improved, and called time on the contest.
A new date will be communicated to supporters in due course.
Clayton’s suspension will stand despite the match being void.
