Paul Burton - Pre-Match Media: Newton Aycliffe vs Marske United

The Seasiders boss previews Tuesday’s clash with recently relegated Newton Aycliffe.

Paul Burton praised his Marske side for being difficult to break down ahead of Tuesday night’s trip to the Ashcourt Group Stadium to face Newton Aycliffe.

The Seasiders boss acknowledged that results have been poor of late, but cast his mind back to the defensive solidity that won his side valuable points at the start of the season, and on Saturday.

Marske come into the contest off the back of a much-needed victory over Kendal Town at the John Keegan Stadium, putting an end to a run of six successive defeats.

It was an own goal that made the difference, though dubiously awarded to Charlie Watt. The boss hopes this evening that his side can improve in front of goal, though maintain a level of security at the back.

He said: “It’ll be a very difficult game again on Tuesday. I think Newton Aycliffe had a bit of a difficult start, but they've picked now. They won on Saturday, I believe.”

“They’ll be full of confidence.

“It’s a difficult place to go, but we've worked hard for three points at the weekend, and we'll go there and look to do the same.

“I think I think the start of the season, we were very difficult to break down. We were difficult to beat.

“We knew, if we got one goal, we were probably going to win the game.

“We need to score more goals, we know that's an area we’ve got to look at as a side, but I just think that the first thing we've got to do is be solid. We were on Saturday.

“We need to be difficult to break down, to work hard, to not play in bad areas, which we didn’t do on Saturday, and take the chances when they come along.

“It was a bit of a lucky break for us against Kendal. It was a great throw from the right, and it comes off one of their players and goes in. We’ve got a slice of luck.

“It’ll be difficult again on Tuesday, but we’ve just got to go there, try to take our chances, and try and get something out of the game.”
