Paul Burton urged his Marske United to build on two successive victories when they take to the MKM Stadium to face Newcastle Benfield this weekend.

The Seasiders travel to Tyneside having beaten Northallerton Town and Shildon in back-to-back games at the John Keegan Stadium.

Finn McKittrick scored to sink Northallerton, whilst goals from Jey Draper, Oscar Mahoney and Tyler Goodman toppled the promotion-hopefuls on Tuesday evening.

Benfield, despite sitting bottom of the division, arrive in a similar vain of form.

The Lions lost eight successive games before rebounding against Birtley at the weekend. Jack Roys and Promise Nzumbu scored in a three-goal victory over Penrith in midweek.

“I think Benfield have had a difficult start compared to last season.” Paul Burton said.

“They’ve certainly picked up lately with a victory over Birtley. They beat Penrith by three goals to nil on Tuesday too, so they’ll come into the game on decent form.

“They’ll be full of confidence.

“For me, tomorrow is all about how we react to beating Shildon. We’re still trying to figure out what we’ve got with this group.

“We’ve had two good performances against Northallerton and Shildon, so for now we just want to keep it going.

“We need to go into Saturday with the right attitude. The lads can’t just take it for granted that we’ll win after midweek, we have to earn the right to play.

“If you remember a few weeks ago, we wanted to take momentum into our game at Thornaby. We’d had a few good performances and we thought the penny had finally dropped.

“Then we got beat by Thornaby, and it’s knocked us back a few steps. This time, we want to keep that momentum going.”

Paul Burton will be boosted by a near full contingent to pick from on Tyneside this weekend, as Tom Marron and Joe Thompson return from injury.

The boss acknowledged only the one notable absence, with James Sayer serving the third of a three match ban.

“It’ll be a big test, but as I said, we will be full of confidence.” He said.

“For once, we’ll have almost a full squad to pick from. James Sayer is still suspended. We’ve got Tom Marron and Joe Thompson back, Kenzie Harker too.

“What’s most important for me is that, whoever plays, we just go out there and give a good account of ourselves.

“We’ve put two good performances in and now we want to carry on that momentum. We’ll be full of confidence, and hopefully we can keep this unbeaten run going.”
